CereTax and Pine Services Group Announce Partnership to Bring Modern Sales Tax Automation to Pine’s ERP Community

CereTax, the sales tax automation platform for complex, high-volume transactions, has partnered with Pine Services Group, a global holding company of ERP and technology services businesses. Through the partnership, the value-added resellers (VARs) and implementation partners in Pine’s portfolio can recommend and deploy CereTax for their customers, bringing the platform to a community of more than 10,000 businesses.

Tax calculation built for the transactions ERPs handle today

Most mid-market companies run sales tax through an engine bolted onto their ERP. When the business adds a product line, registers in new states, or moves to a new ERP, the tax setup is the first thing to break. CereTax was built to remove that problem.

CereTax calculates sales and use tax in real time inside the systems a business already runs. Connectors cover Oracle NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, Rillet, Salesforce, Stripe, and common ecommerce platforms, and an API connects everything else. Every calculation carries its own evidence:

  • Jurisdiction sourcing at the rooftop level. CereTax maps each address to its taxing jurisdictions with GIS boundary data and latitude and longitude, so the rate holds up in an audit or a customer dispute where ZIP-code sourcing does not.
  • A plain-English rationale for every decision. Each tax result cites the rule that produced it, written by tax attorneys, so a controller can explain a charge without opening a support ticket.
  • A rule engine finance teams can configure. If-then rules apply to any data point in the transaction, which covers partial exemptions, item-specific fees, and authority-specific overrides without custom code or an upcharge.
  • Exemption certificates handled in SmartExempt. Customers upload typed or handwritten certificates, CereTax extracts and validates the data, and bulk migration moves an existing certificate library over in one pass.
  • Use tax accruals in real time. Construction, fabrication, and manufacturing customers replace spreadsheet accruals with rules that run as jobs progress.

CereTax focuses on calculation and works with a network of filing partners for returns. Implementation stays with the partner who knows the customer’s ERP, and CereTax never competes with that partner for services work.

What the partnership means for Pine’s community

Pine’s 19 operating companies represent Sage, NetSuite, Microsoft, Acumatica, iplicit, QAD, SAP Business One, Rillet, MYOB Acumatica, and Epicor. Their customers work in construction, field services, real estate, nonprofits, healthcare, wine and spirits, manufacturing, distribution, ecommerce, retail, medical devices, life sciences, industrial and chemical, consumer packaged goods, and hospitality. Many of those customers are in the middle of an ERP migration, including a large group of Microsoft Dynamics GP customers moving to new platforms before Microsoft ends GP support.

An ERP migration is the right moment to fix tax. CereTax deployments run in less than 90 days, so a partner can bring tax live with the new ERP and retire the old engine and its manual overrides at the same time.

Pine partners keep the implementation, configuration, and support work. CereTax provides the engine, the tax content, and the people behind it: real tax and support staff answer the phone. Today CereTax serves more than 200 customers, works with more than 100 partners, and integrates with platforms that move more than $4 trillion in transactions each year.

CereTax already works alongside The Vested Group, Pine’s Oracle NetSuite practice, and the partnership opens the door to the rest of the portfolio. Click to see Pine’s entire portfolio of companies.

“Pine’s partners already run the ERP projects where tax gets decided,” said Andrew McGonnigle, VP of Marketing at CereTax. “Our job is to give them an engine they can put in front of a controller with confidence: accurate to the rooftop, explainable on every line, and live in weeks. We are glad to join the Pine community.”

“We’re excited to welcome CereTax to the Pine Community,” said Chris Milan, VP of Strategic Partnerships at Pine Services Group. “Their modern approach to sales tax automation strengthens our ability to provide customers with solutions that simplify compliance, reduce complexity, and integrate seamlessly with their business systems. We look forward to working together to deliver greater value to our operating companies and their customers.”
